About Patrick Kurtz

Patrick Kurtz is a private investigator, criminalist, writer, editor, publisher and researcher. He lives with his wife Dr Maya Grünschloß and their two children, Ian and Enlil, alternately in Germany, Barcelona (Spain) and on the Isle of Skye (Scotland).

 

As a native “Römer” and grandson of the central German local historian Hilmar Römer, Patrick Kurtz studied Provincial Roman Archaeology, Psychology, Comparative Literature and German Studies at the universities of Oxford, Leipzig, Marburg and Hagen. In addition to editing Aidan Johnstone’s memoirs under the title Livingstones Mahnung, he published the academic volume Von Ovid, Grass und Tintagel Castle – Wissenschaftliche und Essayistische Ausflüge in die Europäische Literatur in 2012.

 

Furthermore, Patrick Kurtz has pursued studies of varying intensity on topics such as prehistory; religion and mythology; the origin, development and nature of the universe, of life (with a focus on biochemistry, especially the DNA molecule) and of consciousness; philosophy; police violence; climate change; as well as democracy, demagogy and disinformation in the 21st century. In doing so, he consistently demonstrates an interest both in established academic research and in alternative scientific approaches, while also looking beyond a purely Western perspective. His other interests and passions include music (he is a multi-instrumentalist), Rishi yoga, scuba diving (PADI certified) and various forms of sporting activity.

 

Driven by interest and a natural aptitude for combination, deduction and analysis, Patrick Kurtz completed professional training as a private detective in 2012/13 and has since been working commercially as an IHK-certified specialist detective. His academic and investigative focus in this field is criminalistics with the application of findings from human ethology.

 

His additional qualifications in the fields of investigation and security include the IHK certificate of competence pursuant to § 34a of the German Trade Regulation Act (GewO), the commercial firearms competence certificate pursuant to § 7 of the German Weapons Act (WaffG), proof of training in life-saving first aid and defibrillator use, certification as an intervention officer in accordance with VdS standards, and even qualification as a lift attendant pursuant to TRBS 3121.

 

Language skills: German, English and Spanish (each conversationally fluent), as well as—at varying levels of basic vocabulary and conversational ability—Italian, French, Catalan and Greek. In addition, Patrick Kurtz holds the Latinum and is familiar with the Hebrew alphabet.

 

Patrick Kurtz is regularly consulted as an expert by television, radio and print media as well as by other institutions, including the University of Potsdam as an adviser within the framework of a research project. He has also appeared—often repeatedly—on or in Sat.1, RTL, ZDF, BBC Worldwide, WDR Radio, Galileo (ProSieben), Klett-Cotta Fachbuch, Der Tagesspiegel (Berlin), Die Wirtschaft Köln, Weser-Kurier, Merkurist Frankfurt, Offenbach-Post, Antenne Münster, Sat.1 NRW, BILD, MDR Television, MDR Radio (including Figaro), NDR Television, Der Spiegel, the IHK magazine, VICE Magazine, ze.tt (the youth magazine of DIE ZEIT), pflichtlektüre (WAZ Media Group), the children’s and youth magazine tut, Blick and Watson (both Switzerland), the Berlin Security Academy, Star FM Berlin, Radio NPR Berlin, Radio Wuppertal, Leipziger Volkszeitung, Dresdner Morgenpost, Sächsische Zeitung and Mitteldeutsche Zeitung, as well as as a “maxperte™” for the online streaming service maxdome.
